Ghana Unveils Five-Year Roadmap to Advance Reparations for Slavery: Special Envoy
The plan aims to shift the reparations agenda from advocacy to implementation, Ghana's special envoy for reparations Ekwow Spio-Garbrah told a local media outlet.
According to him, the initiative, once adopted, will coordinate Ghana’s engagements with the AU, UN, IMF, World Bank, and European countries.
Spio-Garbrah also emphasized that the AU's Decade of Reparations (2026-2035) provides African countries with opportunities to:
🟠coordinate their reparations demands;
🟠develop legal frameworks;
🟠engage former colonial powers in constructive dialogue.
Ultimately, this effort seeks to make international financial institutions more responsive to Africa's reparative claims, the official added.
