Guyana's President Urges King Charles to Apologize for Slavery Ahead of Caribbean Tour: Media

While welcoming Charles III's previous condemnations of slavery, Mohamed Irfaan Ali said they were insufficient, stressing that the UK had reaped enormous material and financial benefits from the trade and that the true scale of the harm could not be quantified.

The British king is set to begin a tour of the Bahamas, Guyana, and Antigua and Barbuda, where he will deliver speeches and attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

According to media reports citing Buckingham Palace, Charles III will not issue a formal apology or offer reparations during the tour, since such matters fall to the government.

The UK government has ruled out financial reparations, with Foreign Secretary David Miliband rejecting the idea in September.
