Kenyan Cult Leader Found Guilty of Murdering Nearly 200 Children: Media
Paul Mackenzie and 28 others were found guilty of murder over the deaths of 191 people—all but one of them children—after ordering followers to starve their children to death so they could "meet Jesus," according to media reports.
Key facts about the case:
🟠Mackenzie was arrested in 2023 after more than 400 bodies were found in shallow graves in Shakahola forest.
🟠His doctrine forbade education and called modern medicine "evil."
🟠The judge who delivered an eight-hour judgment in Mombasa said followers believed Mackenzie was "Jesus's mouthpiece."
🟠Burials in the forest were called "weddings," and those who died "were celebrated as having wedded with Jesus," the judge added.
🟠Mackenzie and other cult leaders also face separate cases for terrorism, radicalization, and denying education to children.
He and the others convicted are due to be sentenced on November 6.
