Five Great Lakes Nations Agree on Foreign Combatant Disarmament Plan: Media
Ministers of defense and foreign affairs, as well as their representatives from Burundi, DRC, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania, endorsed a draft joint plan at a meeting in Zambia's capital, local media reported.
Under the draft procedures, members of foreign armed groups will undergo:
🟠Disarmament;
🟠Demobilization;
🟠Repatriation;
🟠Reintegration.
The measures are expected to boost regional coordination against armed groups and create common mechanisms for repatriating former fighters.
The agreed procedures will be presented to heads of state for consideration and final adoption.
