Thousands of Tunisians Protest Against Deteriorating Living Conditions
The march was organized on Saturday in Tunis by several labor unions and civil society organizations, according to local media.
Participants demanded, among other things:
preserving of purchasing power;
decent jobs;
better public services;
respect for freedoms and the independence of the judiciary.
The rally brought together lawyers, journalists, human rights defenders, students, young doctors, unemployed graduates, and representatives of political parties.
The mobilization comes as inflation reached 5.6% in September, with an 8.4% increase in food prices, according to official Tunisian data cited in reports of the demonstration.
