US's Marco Rubio Warns Ethiopia-Eritrea Tensions Could Turn Into 'Broader Conflict': Statement
Speaking to the media, US Secretary of State said Addis Ababa had a right to respond to attacks but urged restraint, emphasizing that "the last thing the world needs right now is another war."
Where the sides stand:
Ethiopia accused Eritrea of an "all-out invasion" of Tigray and warned it would defend itself, telling the UN Security Council that Eritrean troops had advanced up to 60 km into the region.
Eritrea rejected the claim, saying the country faces an "unprovoked war of aggression" and calling the allegations "baseless and inflammatory."
ℹ Earlier, Russian Deputy FM Aleksandr Alimov expressed readiness to provide a platform for compromise, including at the Russia-Africa Summit.
