Kenya Confirms Four New Ebola Cases, Total Rises to Seven With One Death: Ministry of Health
Earlier, the ministry has confirmed a third Ebola case in Kenya, a 65-year-old woman who was a close relative of the first and second cases, Director-General for Health Patrick Amoth stated.
According to Amoth, she had been quarantined since October 6, when she developed a fever, sore throat and malaise. Diagnosed early, she was receiving supportive care and her condition was improving.
Kenya has stepped up contact tracing, quarantine measures, screening at airports and border crossings, and infection-prevention efforts, with authorities having traced and quarantined 127 of the 130 identified contacts.
On Monday, Kenya designated Ebola a formidable epidemic disease under the Public Health Act and issued fresh regulations spanning surveillance, screening, isolation, quarantine and suspected-case management.
