'Rare, Valuable, Excellent Opportunity,' Tanzanian Politician Comments on Education in Russia
While the education program at universities around the world "is largely the same," Russia offered "upbringing that emphasized unity, living together, mutual respect, love for one another, and not considering yourself superior to others," Benelith Mahenge, who spent 11 years in Russia receiving education in engineering, told Sputnik Africa.
Russian universities are "numerous and excellent," he said, underlining that Russia has many "reputable institutions."
Commenting on how he ended up studying in Russia, Mahenge credited Tanzania's post-independence education system, which offered equal opportunities regardless of "tribe, geographical zone, or region."
"Opportunities were offered equally, and I dared to apply for the available places to study in Russia."
Understanding Russian customs and language presents opportunities "in international organizations and employment," he explained.
