Sahel Alliance Higher Education Officials Meet in Ouagadougou to Advance Academic Sovereignty

Higher education officials from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger gathered in Ouagadougou for their second conference, reviewing recommendations from the first meeting held in Bamako in 2025.

The goal is to pool resources and strengthen the cultural grounding of education and research within the AES space, according to Malian Minister of Higher Education Bouréima Kansaye.

Key topics discussed:

Harmonization of university systems across the AES.

Training in strategic sectors such as mining, oil, and refining.

Developing research tailored to the needs of the Sahel region.

Academic, scientific, and technological sovereignty must become the "unshakeable foundation" of the region's development, Bassolma Bazié, president of the National Commission of the Sahel Confederation, stressed.
