Burkinabes Pay Tribute to Thomas Sankara on 39th Anniversary of His Assassination
On October 15, 1987, the father of Burkina Faso's revolution and his companions tragically lost their lives.
On this occasion, President Ibrahim Traoré urged citizens to continue their fight through daily commitment "in all sectors of national life."
The current president is actively fulfilling this pledge, civil society actor Gouasso Yabré told Sputnik Africa.
"We are truly very happy, because quite simply we could not live in the Sankara era, but we are living in the era of Ibrahim Traoré, who is the reincarnation of the father of the revolution," he noted.
According to the media, the October 15 tribute ceremony in Ouagadougou featured:
wreath-laying at the Thomas Sankara statue;
a military parade;
a 21-gun salute;
a minute of silence.
