Rwanda’s Future F1 Circuit is Rollercoaster Carved by Nature: Media
Rwanda is planning to build a spectacular racing track as Formula 1 championship returns on the African soil, media reported.
"Located 40 kilometres south of Kigali, the circuit will be designed to work in harmony with the natural landscape and use the area’s elevation changes to create a unique and challenging racing experience," Formula 1 said on social media.
Key characteristics of the planned circuit, according to the media:
🟠Extreme Topography: Built on two hills and a lake, the track features a record-breaking 197m elevation change per lap.
🟠High Altitude: At 1,400m above sea level, it will be the second-highest track on the F1 calendar, presenting unique challenges for aerodynamics and engine performance.
🟠Continental Vision: Named the "African Grand Prix," the project aims to attract investment and pave the way for more F1 races across the continent.
🟠Economic Boost: The track is part of a $2 billion infrastructure project near the new Bugesera airport, designed to grow local tourism and hospitality.
The first race is expected in 2030 or 2031, once the surrounding infrastructure and accommodations are fully ready, according to the media.
