'We Must Give Identity to Our Sport': Ibrahim Traoré Outlines Guidelines for New Burkinabè Sovereignty League
Burkina Faso's president clarified the framework of the new Football Sovereignty League during a meeting with regional governors and sector stakeholders, stressing that the nation cannot be built with sick and unconscious youth—the country's main resource.
Key guidelines from the president include:
🟠Total Regional Involvement: Regions must be involved in sport to give it an identity and provide support for athletes and teams.
🟠Talent Development: Regional authorities will coordinate coach recruitment and organize local championships to identify and select young talent.
🟠Job Creation and Compensation: The initiative will create nearly 1,000 jobs. Selected athletes will receive a guaranteed minimum wage of $0.34 plus benefits.
🟠Project Viability: To ensure sustainability, the president mandated a "voluntary but mandatory" contribution from economic operators in every region.
