African Universities of Communication: 'Information is Weapon in Fight Against Terrorism,' Expert Stresses

The 15th edition, held in Ouagadougou, focused on the information war that other entities are waging against the AES and Africa in general, Yannick Nare, a communication expert, told Sputnik Africa:

“In Burkina Faso and within the AES, a struggle is being fought on two fronts: the military struggle and the information struggle for the creation and appropriation of new narratives, in order to tell a story from a local perspective.”

“Africa must now learn to speak for itself [...] because a people that does not master its narrative is more vulnerable. [...] A state that does not control its information space exposes its sovereignty to new forms of domination,” communication expert Moussa Sawadogo told the agency.

During the opening ceremony, Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo emphasized that information has become “a strategic resource of governance,” capable of leading both to cohesion and to division.
