Russia-US Diesel Deal Could Become 'Catalyst' for Shifting Global Relations From Confrontation to Cooperation: Vietnamese Analyst
The agreement could benefit not only Moscow and Washington but also the wider international community, Nguyen Minh Tam, former director of the Center for Information and Scientific Education under Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security, told Sputnik.
The analyst outlined several potential benefits for Russia:
Economic gains: Easing diesel export restrictions could generate billions of dollars in revenue and help Russia partially overcome sanctions.
Fuel management: Exporting surplus summer-grade diesel could free up storage capacity and allow refineries to shift toward winter and Arctic-grade fuel production.
Refinery operations: Increased demand could help facilities affected by drone attacks maintain production and avoid shutdowns.
Tam also suggested that the deal could set a precedent for addressing diplomatic deadlocks involving Ukraine and the Middle East, arguing that sanctions can ultimately backfire on those imposing them.
