Russia-Uganda Cooperation Should Focus on Energy and Industrialisation, Not Just Equipment: Ugandan-Rwandan Entrepreneur

"Cooperation with Russia in hydropower, renewable energy and other technologies could help Uganda develop more generation capacity and modernize the energy sector," Kutegyeka Ivan told Sputnik Africa.

Reliable electricity, he noted, would let more factories operate, more businesses grow and more Ugandans find work — making energy cooperation directly connected to industrialisation.

According to Kutegyeka, partnering with Rosatom could significantly advance Uganda's industrial development if it provided stable power and opened doors for local companies, engineers, technicians and researchers.

"Instead of exporting minerals in its slow form and exporting finished products at a much higher price, Uganda should gradually develop the capacity to process and manufacture and add value locally."
