Hungarian MP From Ruling Party Suspended After Photo From African Safari: Statement
Tibor Kaprinyák, a member of parliament from Hungary's TISZA party, has been temporarily suspended after being photographed holding a dead lion, according to party faction leader Andrea Bujdosó.
"The TISZA faction listened to MP Tibor Kaprinyák and then accepted the presidency's proposal that the faction's ethics committee investigate the matter.Based on the ethics committee's proposal, the TISZA faction will make its decision next week. Until the investigation is completed, MP Tibor Kaprinyák will not participate in the work of the National Assembly."
In early October, photographs circulated on various social media platforms showing Kaprinyák with wild animals killed during a safari in Africa.
The photos sparked outraged reactions from social media users, especially given that the MP is a member of the Environmental Protection Committee.
PM Péter Magyar, who leads TISZA, proposed that the parliamentary faction investigate the incident.
