Why Africa’s Industrial Revolution Has to Start Right Now
Sputnik Africa
As the African Union's Agenda 2063 reaches its midpoint, the continent's industrialisation ambition appears to have come face to face with mounting pressure from energy deficits and infrastructure gaps.
A situation, experts believe, must be tackled head-on by mobilizing its own resources to drive the continent's development agenda, instead of waiting for external solutions. On this episode of the Redrawn Africa podcast, prominent regional strategist and executive chairman of the East Africa Business and Investment Advisory Council, John Bosco Kalisa insists Africa stands at a critical crossroads if urgent steps are not taken.Kalisa also maintains that instead of waiting for grid expansions, foreign direct investment, or external blueprints, African nations already possess the necessary tools to chart their own course.► You can also listen to our podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Deezer, Castbox, Pocket Casts, Afripods, Podcast Addict, and Overcast.► Check out all the episodes of Redrawn Africa Podcast

Why Africa’s Industrial Revolution Has to Start Right Now
As the African Union's Agenda 2063 reaches its midpoint, the continent's industrialization ambition appears to have come face-to-face with mounting pressure from energy deficits and infrastructure gaps.
A situation, experts believe, must be tackled head-on by mobilizing its own resources to drive the continent's development agenda, instead of waiting for external solutions.
On this episode of the Redrawn Africa podcast, prominent regional strategist and executive chairman of the East Africa Business and Investment Advisory Council, John Bosco Kalisa insists Africa stands at a critical crossroads if urgent steps are not taken.
Kalisa also maintains that instead of waiting for grid expansions, foreign direct investment, or external blueprints, African nations already possess the necessary tools to chart their own course.
"We need a new model of industrialization. A model that harnesses the resources we have. As I said, we've been 43 percent fossil fuels. So we need to then end paradigm shifting in terms of using our renewable energy sources. In Kenya, I find that almost 89 percent are using renewable energies. And I've seen a number of other countries now are moving away from fossil fuels to carbon-neutral initiatives. So, we need to take a new approach, new shift, and a new paradigm in terms of the way we want to craft our development and industrialization agenda. And as I said, we have a number of new groupings. We have what we call the Program for Infrastructure Development for Africa, PIDA," Kalisa said.
