SA and Russia Strengthen Water Management, Digital Transformation Partnerships

Training for Better Water Systems

The National School of Government (NSG) has partnered with Russia's RANEPA to exchange skills, experts, and knowledge with South African public servants, aiming to improve water management in the country, Acting Principal of the NSG, Phindile Mkwanazi, told Sputnik Africa at the graduation ceremony. The two institutions are training South African officials in water-resource management, pollution control, hydrology, and climate adaptation.

AI Push

According to Director of Statutory Deductions at the Gauteng Department of Finance, Samuel Sabelo Nkomonde ka Maphanga, the program is aimed at helping the government implement its digital transformation strategy. He said Gauteng province learned from Russia how to integrate AI into daily operations and was now loading financial statements into an AI environment to enhance audit review processes—freeing staff to focus on quality and service improvement.

Deputy Director for ICT Project Management and a graduate of the Russian Digital Transformation Program, Mmatsie Patience Makhado, added that the knowledge and experience gained from the Russian course are important because Russia's developed systems helped SA officials understand how to bring technology together seamlessly.

"AI is here, technology is here. [...] So, we must grab it with both hands and make sure that we implement it," Limpopo Department of Education official and graduate of the Russian Digital Transformation Program, Walter Kekana, told Sputnik Africa.
