Sudan Reopens Major Hospital as Khartoum Gradually Restores Civilian Infrastructure
Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jaber, a member of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council, inaugurated the resumption of medical services at Ibrahim Malik Teaching Hospital in Khartoum, marking another step in the capital's gradual recovery.
Key details:
🟠The hospital was rehabilitated by Sudanese doctors based in the US, who restored the emergency room, obstetrics and gynecology department, and several wards.
🟠Jaber praised the diaspora doctors' role in rehabilitating hospitals and called for replicating their experience across other Sudanese states.
🟠He directed the acceleration of health insurance procedures and pledged support for capacity building and medical training.
🟠Khartoum Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza vowed to connect the hospital to the national electricity grid and said more hospitals will enter service soon.
This follows the government's return to Khartoum from Port Sudan and the lifting of the two-year-old curfew in late August. Since then, civilian infrastructure has been gradually restored, including the reopening of Al-Shaab Teaching Hospital and other medical facilities.
