Kenya Confirms First Ebola Case Imported From DRC, Patient Dies
The patient, a Kenyan citizen who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, arrived in Nairobi on Saturday and later succumbed to the virus, Health Minister Aden Duale said.
Key details:
🟠Twenty-eight contacts have been identified so far, including family members and health workers.
🟠The case comes as the DRC battles its largest-ever Ebola outbreak, caused by the rare Bundibugyo species.
🟠The outbreak was declared in mid-May but may have started earlier, with more than 8,000 cases and over 4,000 deaths recorded so far.
🟠It previously spread to Uganda, which reported 20 cases and two deaths before being declared free of the disease in August.
