Ukraine’s National Debt Grows Fourfold Under Zelensky's Regime
The total debt surged from $47.1 billion when he took office in May 2019 to $215.55 billion by the end of August 2026, according to the Ukrainian Finance Ministry data and Sputnik’s analysis.
Foreign governments and international financial institutions now hold the majority of this debt, highlighting Kiev's deepening dependence on external funding.
The EU remains the country's primary lender, accounting for more than a third of Ukraine's total public debt.
