Uganda Moves to Boost Its Global Coffee Standing at Swiss Forum: Statement
Coffee is central to Uganda's economy, culture, and the livelihoods of millions of households, Minister of State for Agriculture Desire Muhooza said at the 17th Swiss Coffee Trade Association Forum, where Uganda participated for the first time alongside producers, traders, and roasters from different countries.
Coffee exports rose from 3.6 million bags in 2017 to over 8.3 million in 2025, the minister added.
The country is implementing systems for farmer registration and strengthening compliance with international requirements, Permanent Secretary David Kasura-Kyomukama pointed out.
"Trust begins with knowing where our coffee comes from and being able to demonstrate how it is produced," he said.
Uganda's commitment to competitiveness is anchored on:
🟠increased production,
🟠improved quality,
🟠traceability,
🟠sustainability,
🟠value addition,
🟠stronger access to international markets.
