This Nnete Fela Show takes you back to the latest Valdai Club discussion. We also discuss the need for gender parity in SA leadership and honour educators on world teachers day.
Host Seakga Tladi discusses the recent Valdai Club conference in Moscow, a prestigious think tank bringing together global experts, historians and political leaders.
This year they met under the theme, "Responsibility for the Future: Limits of the Possible or Limitless Possibilities."
Discussions focused on the decline of multilateralism, the transition towards a multipolar world order, and the growing influence of BRICS and other non-Western economies.
Participants also examined how digital technologies and artificial intelligence are reshaping global power dynamics.
For Africa, the key priorities were, self-reliant development, and a unified voice in shaping the emerging global order.
Later in the show we interview Dr Zuki Mqolomba, Deputy Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, discussing women's representation in government leadership.
The Public Service Commission has repeatedly found that South Africa is far from achieving its 50-50 gender parity target in senior management, even 29 years after Cabinet adopted it.
Women make up the majority of government employees but hold only 43% of SMS positions. These are roles like director, chief director, and director-general upwards.
"We still have a very strong big boys club that determines even outside of the recruitment processes which positions are filled by whom," Dr Zukiswa says.
Dr Mqolomba traces this bottleneck to deeply entrenched patriarchy, both in recruitment practices and institutional culture.
