'The International Financial Architecture Leaves Out Africa': Malian Pan-African Economist
Today, all 55 African countries are represented in the Bretton Woods institutions, yet Africa accounts for 18% of the world's population while holding less than 10% of the voting power in these financial institutions, Modibo Mao Macalou told Sputnik Africa.
The IMF and World Bank were established in 1944, when just four African countries were represented, he noted.
"We need to reassess what kind of work they do and also how they interact with Africa, and the role of Africa in the international community should be reassessed and readjusted," Macalou stressed.
