Exhibition 'Under the Sky of My Africa' Opens in Moscow to Mark the 100th Anniversary of Collector Eddy Navarro

The exhibition presents more than 200 African art objects from the collection of Eddy Navarro, a traveler, photographer, and collector whose work reflected a lifelong interest in the cultures of the world.

The collection features masks, sculptures, ritual objects, and other artifacts created mainly in the second half of the 20th century. The exhibits reveal African art not only as an artistic expression, but as part of a broader cultural system where objects are connected with traditions, ceremonies, social life, and spiritual beliefs.

The exhibition explores the role of art as a bridge between people, generations, and cultures. Its central concept, the Tree of Life, symbolizes the connection between humans, nature, ancestors, and the spiritual world, reflecting the continuity and resilience of African traditions.

The project is organized by the V.D. Polenov Museum-Reserve, the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University, and the Russian State Library.
