Russian Orthodox Priest Receives High Chief Title From Igbo People in Nigeria
Igbo King Igwe Nnamchi Emmanuel bestowed the prestigious title upon Russian priest Georgy Maximov, presenting him with the African name Ozurumba I and a traditional bone scepter as a symbol of authority.
This historic elevation is a profound sign of respect and trust toward the Russian Orthodox Church, the Russian missionary said.
During the ceremony, the king—a Christian—learned the Orthodox sign of the cross, marking the beginning of catechization for a large group of Igbo people embracing Orthodoxy, Maximov noted.
The priest also added that he delighted the attendees by delivering a blessing in the local Igbo language.
