Nigeria’s growing use of drones, military aviation, and intelligence-led operations is opening new possibilities for how its security forces confront terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. The shift is aimed at improving surveillance, operational readiness, and the ability of troops to respond more effectively to emerging threats.
Global South Pole spoke with Dr. Dickson Osajie, a global security analyst, counter-terrorism expert, and former military officer, to examine the significance of the development and its potential impact on military operations.Osajie said the use of drones could give troops advance information about threats, improve commanders’ decision-making, and reduce soldiers’ exposure to danger during operations. He also called for stronger collaboration with notable actors, especially Russia, particularly in light of the forthcoming Russia–Africa Summit scheduled in Moscow. "If you have this synergy with Russia, I also see how they can assist us in the area of training, in the area of arms and ammunition, and in areas of technology," Osajie said, adding that with such collaboration, "the Nigerian government will be singing a victory song sooner or later."
