Tourism: How Can Burundi Transform Its Natural Wealth Into a Job-Creating Industry—Expert Weighs In
Burundi possesses several tourism assets, Aloys Ndayisenga pointed out in an interview with Sputnik Africa on the occasion of World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27.

The Burundian shoreline of Lake Tanganyika, which holds considerable economic and tourism potential. Currently, this site "is not exploited in a way that generates revenue or jobs."
Mountains which are present everywhere in the Burundian landscape. Due to its lush terrain of high plateaus and fertile valleys, the country is often nicknamed the "land of a thousand and one hills."
Numerous tourism activities could be developed there to attract a large number of visitors, Ndayisenga noted.
Burundi must "promote sustainable tourism: a tourism that generates employment, a tourism that fuels the economy, and a tourism that does not impact the environment," he concluded.
