Somali Forces Repel Major Attack on Baidoa, Inflict Heavy Losses on Al-Shabaab* and Allied Militias
The national army has decisively defeated a large-scale attack on the city of Baidoa, the largest city hosting the administration of the South West State, the Ministry of Defense announced on Monday morning.
Key details:
🟠The assault, which began with explosions, was carried out by a merged force of Al-Shabaab terrorists and militias loyal to former South West State President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen.
🟠The armed forces "bravely repelled the attack, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers" and remain in "full control of the city," pursuing the fleeing militants, according to the ministry's statement.
🟠The allied terrorist militias are reported to have fled, abandoning their dead and wounded.
🟠The attack is the latest in a series of clashes since federal forces took control of Baidoa in March amid a political dispute between Laftagareen and the federal government. Similar attacks were repelled on August 17 and September 3.
