Illegal Hunting Threatens Migratory Birds in Libya, Experts Say
Illegal hunting is decimating Libya's migratory bird populations, experts told Sputnik.
◻ Alarming Scale: Approximately 500,000 birds are hunted annually, highlighting an urgent need for updated laws and stricter quotas, Khaled Al-Taeb, president of the Libyan Society for Birds, noted.
◻ Modern Threats: Many of Libya's 361 recorded migratory species are targeted with nets and firearms, worsened by modern hunting tech and trafficking, Saleh Al-Shalawi, director of the Alhaya Organization for the Protection of Wildlife and Marine Organisms, emphasized.
◻ Extinction Risk: Commercial hunting threatens species with extinction, some of them have not been seen in Libya for three years, Libyan academic Nasser Dawoud pointed out.
