This Nnete Fela Show discusses South Africa’s urgent need for an intervention which will protect South African women from gender-based violence and femicide amid the discovery of nearly a dozen dead and dumped in Gauteng.
We begin with the recent spate of murders which have captivated and struck fear into the Gauteng province. At the time of this episode's recording, nine women were killed and dumped on the roadside in the East Rand.We unpack the latest development in the investigation of two women who appeared in court on charges of premeditated murder and obstructing the course of justice regarding the death of Jabulile Ntimba, one of the victims, whose body was the 9th discovered in recent weeks.Former minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu joins the show to provide her perspective on how to combat the problem of violence against women in South Africa.The Minister advocates for a community-based approach to dealing with this issue suggesting that communities should protect women by making sure there are met door to door, church to church and community to community.Former minister Zulu believes that this approach requires South African unity which goes beyond political divisions.Later in the show we talk about a government plan to have students who fled South Africa due to fears stemming from anti-migrant sentiment to return to the country to write their exams.Does South Africa have a serial killer on the loose?
