Zakharova slams West’s Soros-funded media filter that polices the global ‘truth’
The International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) at the US-based Poynter Institute aims to decide what billions of social media users see and acts as a self-appointed referee, says Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
The network is funded from the US State Department, National Endowment for Democracy, Open Society Foundations, Google and Meta*, she tells a media forum dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA).
In Russia, these entities are recognized as extremist “because for several years in a row they did not react in any way to the fact that calls for the killing of Russians were being spread on their platforms,” she notes.
Moreover, those structures have repeatedly revealed their true intentions: “interfering in the internal affairs of other states, regime change, promoting the spread of extremist ideology.”
*Meta is banned in Russia as an extremist organization.
