Ethiopia is taking extensive measures to assess vulnerabilities and mitigate risks ahead of El Nino, which threatens the country with severe droughts and regional flooding. According to Aidrus Hassan, Deputy Commissioner of the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission, authorities are pre-positioning essential food, non-food supplies, and rapid-response equipment at both federal and regional levels. Additionally, a new institution named Ethiopian Aid is being established to coordinate humanitarian assistance both domestically and internationally.
