Algerian Garbage Collector Finds Treasure Worth Over $22,000 and Returns It Entirely
Abdelkader Mimouni, a collection agent in the city of Relizane, discovered a box filled with jewelry during his daily round, as he told local media.
Accustomed to sorting plastic, he brought home a bag he had picked up. Once home, he opened it and found a box containing gold jewelry. The value of the jewels was about 3 million dinars, or more than $22,000.
The box had a jeweler's phone number on it, so Abdelkader Mimouni contacted him. The merchant then contacted the family to whom he had sold the gold.
To thank him, the family offered him a sum of money, the amount of which was not disclosed.
"I was in debt, and this family helped me pay the overdue rent on the house," Abdelkader Mimouni confided.
