Algeria Seeks to Make Port of Algiers a Natural Gateway to the Sahel: Beninese Politician
The North African country "has every interest in seeing the northern Sahel region pacified and in having its port become the natural port for these countries," Bertin Koovi told Sputnik Africa.
The Port of Algiers’ geographic position could give it an advantage in supplying landlocked Sahelian countries, according to Koovi.
Goods could therefore reach countries such as Niger more quickly than through some West African corridors, he argued.
