A panel discussion on this topic sparked lively debate at the Burundi Economic Summit. A Sputnik Africa correspondent was on site.
The participants acknowledged that numerous obstacles to genuine free trade still exist:
▪ Food insecurity, which limits export opportunities;
▪ Producers' inability to market their products effectively;
▪ Insufficient attention paid to standardization;
▪ The lack of a strategy to coordinate all stakeholders;
▪ The high risk of wildfires.
The country needs a legal framework "to facilitate access to financing," as well as conditions to persuade "reinsurers to cover more risks," they argued.
