African Wild Dogs Complete Record 4,000 km Journey Across Zambia in Search of Mates: Research Paper

Scientists describe such movements as dispersals — one-way journeys in search of mates — which differ from migrations, where animals move seasonally for food or habitat.
ℹ Only around 6,000 African wild dogs remain in the wild, making them one of the continent's rarest predators. The highly social animals cannot reproduce within their birth pack, so individuals either stay to inherit it or leave at two or three years old to seek a mate.
