Why African Countries Trust Russia—'Putin's Son for Africa' Explains at Russia's World Youth Festival
During the 2024 World Youth Festival in Sochi, Ugandan delegate Davis Akampurira expressed his desire to become the Russian president's "son for Africa," a sentiment Vladimir Putin warmly returned by calling him a son.
Returning to the country for the 2026 edition of the event, Akampurira told Sputnik Africa that this memorable exchange reflects a much deeper geopolitical reality.
He explained that unlike other global powers, Russia has no colonial history on the continent, consistently supporting Africa’s fight for independence and development.
According to Akampurira, Putin’s vision aligns with President Yoweri Museveni’s focus on true sovereignty and preserving cultural roots and traditional values amid rapid global modernization.
