Cameroon, the New 'Banker of Central Africa,' Economist Says

Of the 56 banks operating in Central Africa, Cameroon accounts for 19, concentrating more than 60% of the bank accounts opened in the sub-region, Marc Onana Ombé told Sputnik Africa.

“The countries of the sub-region, in order to succeed in their mission of raising funds, have an interest in turning to Cameroon. The country offers its strengths in the banking and insurance system and naturally positions itself as the main creditor of the sub-region; this is a mark of confidence.”

This position allows Cameroon to diversify its investments and risks across various countries, further strengthening the solidity of the financial system, he added.
