BRICS is Reforming Global Trade & Increasing National Sovereignty, Analyst Says
The platform allows developing and emerging economies to renew trade and military cooperation on fairer terms than the traditionally "oppressive" relations between the Global North and South, Dr. Ongama Mtimka of Nelson Mandela University told Sputnik Africa ahead of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Key highlights:
🟠Beyond Promises: "It's going to take practical approaches to increase trade" among Global South nations, Mtimka said.
🟠Interdependence: No nation or regional bloc can survive trading only among themselves. "The global population and global markets are way bigger and call for greater cooperation," he noted.
🟠Reforming Western Ties: The expansion of BRICS is resulting in the reform of trade with the Western world. "As you increase options for countries to trade with the rest of the world, you increase the sovereignty of those countries."
