'We Will Never Allow Complacency, Delays & Bureaucratic Processes to Prevent Economic Development': SA Minister
With the projects like the Telkom Towers precinct in Pretoria, the government will "ensure that we cut down on costly private leases and return that money to departments to be used for service delivery," said Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson, commenting on the state's initiative to revive unoccupied buildings.
The Telkom Towers project alone will create more than 5,300 construction jobs, the minister pointed out.
"These are jobs that support families, grow communities, fix broken metros, and drive economic activity, which South Africa so desperately needs."
The completed Telkom Towers will offer 106,000 m² of leasable space to boost state revenue from current and new clients, he emphasized.
Combined, the projects will create a total of 12,700 construction jobs and unlock 212,000 m² of gross leasable area, Macpherson added.
"The private sector will be operating these buildings for 20 or 25 years, whatever we agree on, [and then] they will return those assets back to the state."
