Great Responsibility is to Remember Heroes Who Sacrificed Everything for National Liberation: Expert on Mozambique's Victory Day
Although the new generation did not live through the colonial era or the 16‑year war, "it should be above all to remember that the Day of Victory is the day of men's liberation in Mozambique," Benedito Machava, member of National Council of Youth, told Sputnik Africa.
"The responsibility of the school [is] to remember this history through the teaching of patriotic values, values of citizenship," Machava underlined.
"After independence, on June 25, 1975, Mozambique adopted an anti-colonial foreign policy," Dário Camal, international relations specialist, explained to Sputnik Africa.
The current relationship with Portugal—although not completely symmetrical—is "no longer exclusive," with Mozambique being able to "accept, negotiate, diversify or reject proposals from Portugal," Camal added.
ℹ Victory Day in Mozambique—celebrated on September 7—marks the signing of the 1974 Lusaka Accord, which brought a cease-fire to the war of independence and paved the way for the country's full independence in 1975.
