Iran and US Intensify Strikes on Oil Tankers and Ships
On the night of September 5–6, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had disabled three oil tankers — Downy, Stark 1 and Kylo — after Iran launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships in regional waters. CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said the strikes were intended to impose a greater economic cost on Tehran.
In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it attacked three oil tankers and US vessels using an unauthorized shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC condemned the US strikes as an act of aggression and warned ships against using unauthorized routes or making suspicious movements.
CENTCOM also reported that US forces sank an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman.
Meanwhile, the IRGC reportedly struck a US naval drone near the Strait of Hormuz, according to Fars News Agency.
