Angola Inaugurates Two Major Dams to Strengthen Water Security & Boost Agriculture: Media
Angolan President João Lourenço has launched the Ndué and Calucuve dams in Cunene province, marking a major step in combating drought and enhancing water security in the country's southern region, local media reported.
Key characteristics of the projects, according to the media:
◻ Ndué Dam: 32.8m high, 1,500m long, with a 170 million m³ storage capacity. It will benefit around 55,000 people, 60,000 heads of cattle, and create job opportunities for the youth.
◻ Calucuve Dam: 31.6m high, 2,184m long, with a 141 million m³ capacity. It features a 240km aqueduct and 22 water intakes, benefiting over 80,000 people and 200,000 cattle.
◻ Combined Impact: With a total storage of 311 million m³, the projects will drive irrigated agriculture, boost livestock, ensure food security, and stimulate private investment and local commerce.
The video was released by the Angolan Energy Ministry following the completion of the dams' construction in August.
