Africans Must Decolonize Their View on Beauty: Pan-Africanist

Western beauty standards, which impose thinness, have harmful effects on African women, Diane Manuela Sike Doumbé, a pan-Africanist journalist and director of For You Media, told Sputnik Africa.

"Over the years, this model of beauty has become established in our society, in various African societies, and we have normalized this fact," she noted.

In Africa, women come in various shapes and sizes—slim, curvy, tall, and short, the speaker said, noting that this diversity is a cornerstone of the continent's richness.
