Kenya Activates Measures Ahead of Heavy El Niño Rains

Kenya has launched a National Contingency Plan to tackle the October–December El Niño rains, which bring high risks of flooding, landslides, and disease outbreaks, the Interior Ministry said.

The measures include:

🟠drainage clearance;

🟠evacuation planning;

🟠early warning systems.

Bungoma County in Western Kenya, historically hard-hit and prone to mudslides, is urging residents in high-risk zones to relocate early to avoid potential disaster, Noah Eledi, County Director of Meteorology for Bungoma County, told Sputnik Africa.
