Military barracks in the Tanezrouft desert, in the country's extreme southwest, will be converted into a high-security prison for drug traffickers, according to media reports.
ℹKnown as the "land of thirst" and "land of terror," this almost uninhabited Sahara region sees summer temperatures exceed 50°C.
Additionally, Algerian authorities decided to establish a specialized security agency dedicated to drug enforcement, the media noted.
