Ethiopia to Build 605 Mobile Sites in Rural Parts of Country
According to Ethio Telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamiru, the company’s three-year Next Horizon strategy aims to support the Digital Ethiopia 2030 vision, with key targets including:
▪ Increasing the number of mobile sites to 13,238
▪ Expanding 4G internet service coverage to 97%
▪ Increasing the number of cities using 5G internet services to 100
▪ Expanding cloud infrastructure and data centers
Frehiwot noted that the first year of the strategy’s implementation had been successfully completed, with achievements including:
Mobile service subscribers reaching 96.2 million;
60 million citizens benefiting from Telebirr, Ethio Telecom’s mobile money service.
Ethio Telecom announced that 1,628 additional mobile sites will be built in 2027, according to a Sputnik Africa correspondent.
