Africa Shouldn't Watch New Global Logistics Architecture From Sidelines, Expert Says
African ports must become bridges between Eurasia and the continent rather than mere points of entry and exit, governance and economic expert Prof. Fredrick Onyango Ogola told Sputnik Africa, commenting on President Putin's statements at the Eastern Economic Forum.
The economist outlined key areas where Africa stands to benefit as Russia advances new transport corridors and AI-driven solutions:
🟠Logistics & Trade Routes: Africa should diversify its trade routes but avoid replacing one dependency with another.
🟠AI & Drones for Development: AI and drones can turn distance into an economic advantage—from precision agriculture to infrastructure monitoring and smarter mining. Drones could become "the roads of the sky," delivering medicine where roads take years to build.
🟠AI as Leapfrog Opportunity: Just as Kenya leapfrogged with M-Pesa in digital money, AI presents the same opportunity—putting a doctor in every village, a tutor in every classroom, and transparency in every government.
🟠Russia-Africa AI Cooperation: Africa should welcome Russia's expertise but avoid becoming merely a technology consumer. As Ogola put it: "The greatest technology transfer is not the machine, it is the African mind that learns to build the next machine."
