Nigeriens Mobilized to Defend Their Freedom and Dignity: Rally in Niamey Supports Army
The Nigerien capital hosted a demonstration in support of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), with participants praising the bravery and professionalism of the military following the August 29 mutiny.
Sputnik Africa spoke to demonstrators in Niamey about the motivations behind the rally:
"Violence—weapons—do not solve problems. To solve a problem, you must have dialogue; you must communicate," Omar Ousmane, a member of the Patriotic Citizens' Movement, told Sputnik Africa.
"It is only natural that Nigeriens mobilize to say no to such an attitude, no to treachery, and no to the desire to place Niger back under the wings of foreign domination, under the wings of imperialist domination," Niamey resident Illiassou Boubacar said.
"I saw during the events of August 28–29, 2026, to what extent Russia committed itself as a guarantor, to what extent Russia was truly able to control the situation [...], to what extent Russia committed itself to defending Niger," stated Hamani Liman Al-Moctar, a Nigerien student representative in Russia.
